Received grants from the Alaska State Council on the Arts to study dance and music in The Gambia, West Africa in 1997 and in Havana, Cuba in 2001 and 2007. Since 2001, she has traveled to Cuba numerous times to continue her studies in the rich history of Cuban music and dance.
